PHEW. Fixing all my LJ-hosted icon links took FOREVER. I had more than 150 posts at the old icon comm!!! And they all had LJ-hosted links! D: I did it slowly only one hour per day and just now finally imported those entries and claimed my id. YAY. So that is done. However, still a massive amount of work to do for somein30 and neonspiderwebs, but at least I can do it now (this first step was needed before anything else could be done).
Honestly this whole ordeal has made me TOTALLY lose interest in creating icons (I didn't make any this month), but hopefully that will pass now that it's done. When going through all my previous posts my feelings kept fluctuating between "wow how did I make icons this good once??" and "dude you've wasted WAY too much of your time with this and it probably wasn't worth it". And also "wtf is this" with regards to some icons :D
That being said I couldn't just let the icons die if LJ goes down, each set has distinct memories associated with it (the creative process, which fandoms I was into, even the little lastfm generated fields of what music I was listening to!) which is why I ultimately chose to import the entries instead of just creating fandom-specific archives (which would be more user-friendly in terms of helping people find userpics of the subjects they want).
Re: old posts from my personal journal, I'm fine leaving them to LJ tbh. As a nostalgic person I did take a backup (the csv thing that LJ supports), but I don't need to drag all my whiny history here :D I used LJ to vent a lot and I'm a totally different person than I was way back in 2010 when I started writing there so idk if I want those entries floating around. My old fics and icons are so bad too, nobody needs to see them :D :D I'd rather start fresh here!
I already noticed one thing that is a HUGE plus here compared to LJ: there seems to be a random userpic function! Awesome!! I no longer need to manually go to a randomizer website and use my list of userpic titles to check which one the random number means, haha. Yes, that's exactly what I've been doing this far ever since the random icon hook stopped working.
