C'est une histoire complexe qui est racontée de plein de côtés à la fois avec plein d'angles différents. D'habitude j'adore ça, mais là comme je n'y suis pas rentrée, c'était un peu trop complexe pour moi. Les révélations arrivaient sans que l'en perçoive toute l'ampleur.

Un conflit entre deux frères humains, un conflit entre deux frères-fées, et d'autres générations, tout cela pour la possession d'un manteau qui permet de réécrire l'univers. L'univers est intéressant. Les relations familiales aussi. Niveau personnages féminins c'est assez dramatique, par contre.

C'est principalement écrit en bande dessinée, mais il y a des pages de textes. Les dessins sont entièrement à l'encre noire, très précis et esthétiques, mais pas toujours très efficaces ; je sais que les personnages sont de la même famille, mais j'aimerais les reconnaître autrement que par leurs coiffures. Les passages d'humour (souvent à base de références), que l'auteur écrit pour soulager une atmosphère tendue, ne marchent pas vraiment sur moi.

C'est un avis mitigé de ma part, mais cela reste une oeuvre intéressante par un auteur sincère.

Un webtoon, deux saisons sont sorties pour l'instant, je viens de commencer la deuxième. C'est très populaire, les élèves du club manga me l'ont recommandé, et même si je n'accrochais pas au style de dessin j'ai voulu essayer ; et en fait ça se lit très vite et très facilement !

Ashlyn est une lycéenne asociale. Un jour, elle se retrouve de force dans un voyage scolaire pour un travail de groupe. Après avoir visité une maison hantée, toutes les nuits, les six élèves du groupe se retrouvent dans un univers où des monstres viennent les attaquer.

Bien sûr c'est du survival horror, où il faut comprendre, être créatif, et savoir se battre pour survivre chaque nuit. Mais en fait, c'est plus subtil que je le pensais. La façon dont cela influence leurs vies dans la journée, la façon dont leurs situations familiales sont révélées peu à peu, les indices sur pourquoi ça se passe et ce qui se passe exactement... ça n'est pas du réalisme, loin de là, mais cela sonne vrai pour moi. Je comprends le succès !

+ Booked my flu shot for next Thursday. Apparently they're not doing Covid shots at the doctor anymore, boo. And the only information I can find is that it becomes available week 42. Hopefully I manage to get in there early enough that it will mostly be in full effect by the time I go to Thailand.

+ One Battle After Another will be showing at the small local cinema next week. There's been some very positive buzz. I may try to lure some friends to come with.

+ Decided to try and move away from using GoodReads, and so far StoryGraph seems a good fit. I know there's quite a few options out there, but I only made it through two before settling on StoryGraph. (Fable being the second option, but just way too busy for me. Someone looking for a move involved and social experience might vibe with it!)

One of the fun things is you can make your own book lists or challenges. I started putting together a small Queer Comics one. I could only find two other comic/graphic novel challenges by searching, so that's certainly a void in need of filling that's what she said.

Anyways, I'm here, in case anybody else is stretching their wings.

Aster vient d'une famille de sorciers où les filles apprennent la magie et où les garçons apprennent à se transformer en animaux, mais il veut apprendre la magie.

Aussi, une créature étrange fait disparaitre certains de ses cousins, et il devient ami avec une fille non-magicienne, ce qui est interdit par sa famille.

Malgré quelques thèmes sombres, c'est une histoire douce à propos d'apprendre à choisir ce qu'on veut faire et être ce qu'on est vraiment à l'adolescence. Contrairement à ce que je pensais, ce n'est pas explicitement trans, mais implicitement...

C'est peut-être un peu trop doux par rapport à la pression de la famille. Des fois cela semble cruel et à la scène d'après tout le monde est vraiment gentil et fait au mieux. L'ambiguité ne marche pas pour moi ; tout semble juste un peu trop optimiste.

J'aime beaucoup les personnages, et même si l'histoire peut être finie au tome 1, j'ai été ravie de les retrouver pour un tome 2 ! Il y a aussi un 3, que la médiathèque n'a pas, mais que je lirai à un moment ou un autre !

Deux tomes : Arzhur est un chevalier déchu qui est recruté pour délivrer une princesse dans une tour. Mais Islen n'est pas ce qu'elle semble. Son père et sa mère veulent tous les deux la récupérer pour des raisons très différentes.

J'avais beaucoup aimé le premier tome, avec cette princesse à moitié humaine qui lutte pour savoir ce qu'elle est. J'aime moins le second tome qui se concentre plus sur le passé d'Arzhur et qui a un trope que je déteste (injustement accusé de viol), et même pas spécialement développé, écrit comme un cliché. Mais cela reste une histoire de fantasy intéressante, avec des références à des contes de fées qui sont tout à fait ce que j'aime.

Aussi, les dessins sont très beaux.

I went through all 56 (!) episodes of Love Like The Galaxy, a costume drama starring Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi. I like them both, but the drama is so much not my cup of tea that I was ranting about it to my friends the whole time. If you want to subject yourself to it, it's on viki (and youtube). I really just finished it for Wu Lei's face, which I was able to enjoy even in period costume for a change. The drama itself is about a young noble lady with little education or grace but a knack for physics and construction who falls in love with a young general traumatized by his whole family getting killed and bent on revenge. The characters are all cardboard cutouts and/or comic relief, the conflicts are all people being mean to each other in increasingly devious and despicable ways, and the love story is larger than life and blown this way and that by the superficial plot only meant to evoke maximum emotion from the viewer without much regard for logic. For some reason, none of this kept me from watching it to the very end, all just to see Wu Lei smile. My priorities, I show you them. This left little room for anything else this month.

HPI ended! *sob* The last four episodes all aired in September, and I enjoyed them all, especially 5x07, which was a shipper's delight from start to finish. I also liked the last episode, and it leaves us with a nice ending to a wonderful show. 5 stars no comments.

Oh, I forgot about Dream Within a Dream! A transmigration parody that immediately endeared itself to me by parodying Love Like The Galaxy in its first episode. :D I posted the comparison here. I have by now seen three eps and find it pretty funny! It parodies all the tropes, which is the best thing you can do with tropes, anyway. :) It's on viki.

Phineas and Ferb, season 5. Slowly going through this instead of more meaty things (see work stress), and enjoying it. It's really still just as good as it's always been, it makes me laugh a lot. I also very much enjoy how many *friendly* scenes between Doofenschmirtz and Perry there are. (Yes, I ship them, who doesn't?)

Dongji Rescue - screeners in terrible quality, I will wait. (But what I saw so far was very good. Better than I expected.)

Quand ce manga est sorti, j'étais intriguée par le résumé, mais aussi un peu inquiète. Un garçon qui, après avoir raté les Olympiades, reconvertit son talent mathématiques dans la cuisine, je doutais que ce soit possible.

Et puis finalement, cela marche bien ! Ce n'est pas tellement qu'il y a beaucoup de calcul (il y en a, pour le dosage des saveurs, mais ce n'est pas des maths avancées), c'est une question d'état d'esprit, d'agripper un problème jusqu'à ce que quelque chose en tombe, en utilisant sa logique et son intuition. Il n'y a pas beaucoup de maths, mais cela reste un hommage très sympa à la pensée mathématique, cela ne semble pas artificiel !

Ensuite, je suis un peu déçue, parce qu'en lisant je pense : oui c'est bien fait, le cuisinier qu'il rencontre est charismatique comme il faut, son passé par rapport aux maths et à son dégoût croissant très crédible, le vengeance sur le principal de l'école satisfaisante... et pourtant, je ne suis pas happée. Je ne suis pas très mangas de nourriture à la base, mais aussi, même si les personnages se promettent d'aller plus loin, j'ai l'impression que ce tome 1 a résolu tout ce que je voulais niveau arc de personnage. Ce qui est positif, d'une certaine façon ! Mais je vais m'arrêter là.

Guess who picked up a super fun comic, tore through three trades, then wanted to find folks talking about it and searched on BluSky... to find it got cancelled the very day she picked it up? AYUP.

Why aren't people buying super fun team comics?? *shakes fist at universe*

The comic in question? Birds of Prey, written by Kelly Thompson. It had team! Quips! Competency! Siblings! Big Barda and Tiny Bat!! Muscles and mind-controlled beefcakes!

The last issue comes out in December and I'd prefer to pick up the trade. When I went to check if we'd even get volume 4 - comics! they treat us so well! - there was some good sprinkled in there. Firstly, she's pitching a new book at DC featuring a couple of the characters from BoP. My feral mind is slamming both fists on the table, chanting "Big and tiny! Big and tiny!" Probably not but gimme.

Secondly, Thompson's heading up the new Buffy and Angel run at Dynamite!

In my early days trying to figure out how to be a writer and what stories mattered to me and why — no heroine quite broke through for me like Buffy Summers.

She was somehow everything my young geek heart had always wanted but hadn’t known to ask for. Something about that delicate alchemy of horror, fantasy, and comedy paired with a hero so pure of heart and yet flawed and relatable was… impossible to deny. I fell deeply in love with Buffy, and following that, her whole world. Her ex-boyfriend is now a supernatural detective in Los Angeles you say? Inject it directly into my veins! But unlike a lot of other worlds I loved, the world of Buffy and Angel somehow never fell to the wayside. I could always come back to it and find something new, or something I’d missed, or something I needed. And I hope this new story we’re telling can do the same for old and new fans everywhere.

Thank god BOOM! lost the license because oof. Outside of the pretty covers and first issue, that was rough to say the least.

But I'm excited for this! We could, dare I say it, get a good Buffy comic.

Epoque moderne, aux enfers japonais, Hözuki est le bras droit du seigneur Emma, poli et efficace. Malheureusement pour lui, il est probablement la seule personne avec ces compétences de tous les enfers.

De la tranche de vie administrative pleine de références culturelles, des contes traditionnels à Sadako en passant par les parodies d'émissions télé, cela aurait dû me plaire ! Mais en fait, j'ai été déçue par l'humour qui ne m'a pas beaucoup fait rire. Hözuki a un bon mélange d'être sympathique pour son job et objectivement un oni infernal, malheureusement il n'y a aucun autre personnage assez intéressant, de mon point de vue, pour avoir des interactions qui me plaisent. Rajoutez à ça une blague vaguement transphobique (même si j'ai vu pire en manga, soyons honnêtes) et je n'ai pas été happée du tout.

Sous la direction de Marjane Satrapi, mais peu de pages sont d'elle. C'est une BD documentaire sur les émeutes en Iran qui ont suivi la mort de Mahsa Amini (tuée pour avoir "mal" porté son voile) ; cela parle, en général, de l'histoire de l'Iran et de son climat politique.

Des spécialistes d'histoire, de politique, et de nombreux auteurs de bande dessinée racontent chacun un angle particulier de la situation. C'est bien fait et frappant, souvent horrifiant, bien sûr, vu le sujet, et très instructif.

Catégorie : Chaudron, Foudre, et Clair de Lune (Fantastique - Magie - Sorcière - Potion - Infusion - Herboristerie - Amour - Famille)



Milieu du 20e siècle ; Yukinojô, un orphelin, fait un mariage arrangé avec la fille d'un agriculteur spécialisé dans la pomme. Au début, cela se passe bien, il travaille dur, s'intègre lentement, apprend... mais un jour, sa femme est malade, il va livrer des pommes seul, et il tombe sur un magnifique pommier sauvage. Il cueille des pommes, en offre une à sa femme alitée... et découvre qu'il l'a offerte, sans la savoir, au Dieu qui protège le village.

Les changements physiques se voient, elle devient plus petite, ses cheveux et ses ongles poussent très vite... cela fait longtemps qu'aucun sacrifice n'a été offert, il semble tabou d'en parler à Yukinojô, il ne sait pas comment sa femme va mourir... mais il est bien déterminé à l'éviter.

J'ai aimé le tome 1 et je suis très curieuse par rapport à la suite ! Il y a beaucoup de directions dans lesquelles cela peut partir !

+ Fishery has been so consistently bad there's talk of maybe heading home a little earlier. I wouldn't mind. I've been cope-eating my way through the whole trip lol. Pity I undid all the progress I made last trip, but I gotta keep my spirits up some way, and right now that's via candy and comics.

The weather is also kind of shit, and looking to get shittier. Like, no fishery and go seek shelter by the coast shittier.

+ I sometimes stop by creativenarket.com for their weekly batch of free goods, and this week they've got a 1300 pack of really versatile marker elements up for grabs. Lines, boxes, circles, icons... could do a lot of fun stuff with it!

+ My dad had a skin cancer scare last week, but thankfully they caught it in time! (by which I mean, the doctor said it looked ok, he insisted they remove it, and then it turned out to be cancerous. So happy my dad's a stubborn one.) They've taken further tests and found no sign of it having spread, so he should be in the clear.

+ I did send him the link to this study: Daily vitamin B3 dose cuts skin cancer risk by up to 54%. Very large pool of participants, I feel more than sturdy enough to pester him about adding some vitamins. (I'll also have to push when it comes to sunblock *sigh*)
